Trip Itinerary
Travel mid morning to Vancouver Island and on to Port Alberni and the McLean Mill National Historic Site for a tour. After the tour check in to the Best Western Barclay Inn. Dinner is included.
Sail along the majestic Alberni Inlet to historic Bamfield and experience the spectacular sights. Aquatic wildlife, remote communities, beautiful views, and salt water air await you! Bamfield also services Pachena Bay and the start of the world famous 77-kilometre West Coast Trail.
The MV Frances Barkley is a 65-year-old heritage ship originating in Norway. After trekking through the Atlantic Ocean to Vancouver Island, she started her current route in 1990.
Today, the ship is known for the essential services it provides to people in the remote communities of the inlet. The 36-metre vessel can carry up to 144 passengers and 100 tons of cargo. This boat cruise is 4.5 hours. Upon arrival enjoy a picnic lunch in Bamfield. Following lunch the coach drives back to the hotel.
Depart from the Port Alberni Valley with a brief stop at Cathedral Grove. Continue to Comox for lunch and wine tasting at the 40 Knots Winery. After lunch travel east through Strathcona Park to the hamlet of Gold River and a two night stay at the Baymont by Wyndham. Dinner tonight is included at a local eatery.
After breakfast board the MV Uchuck III, a working vessel, as it makes its way through Nootka Sound to Friendly Cove (Yuquot). This is the historic birthplace of British Columbia and ancestral home to the Mowachaht/Muchalaht First Nations people where European Traders made first contact. Visit the lighthouse and historic Catholic Church/Cultural Centre, hike the beaches and trails, and learn about the significant native culture of the area.
Lunch is available for sale onboard the boat. Dinner is included at a local eatery.
Depart Gold River for Qualicum. Take the midafternoon ferry back to the lower mainland.
