Iceland – 2017

George and I just returned from an amazing tour of Iceland, which we are researching for a group tour June 2017. Iceland, is indeed defined by its dramatic volcanic landscape of geysers, hot springs, waterfalls, glaciers and black-sand beaches. Upon arrival we travelled on a highway carved out of 12 foot deep harden lava. Upon our arrival in Reykjavik we joined a city tour and began our journey discovering Iceland. During our short visit we were able to travel to the “Golden Circle” which includes Gullfoss falls, Geysir and Pingvellir National Park. Pingvellir National Park is the dividing point between the North American and Europe plates, they move 5 mm per year!
With the help of a local operator, which we are using for 2017, we travelled to the south side of Iceland. Seljalandsfoss Falls, Vatnajökull National Park – Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon, to view the amazing glaciers and enjoy a boat tour on the iceberg lagoon. Views that stood out were the basalt columns at Black Sand beach, mile long glaciers, and green cliffs with sheep everywhere. The food was also a great surprise with choices including fresh artic char, amazing lamb dishes and Skyr which is kind of like yogurt – delicious as a smoothie or dessert, plus beautiful fresh greenhouse vegetables. We are very excited to be able to offer our first Iceland tour June 2017 which is a direct flight with Icelandair. Details to follow in our July supplement.
